It is becoming increasingly popular to include a special highlight in a wedding celebration – something that surprises the guests and becomes one of the most memorable moments of the evening.

Couples might choose a wedding bouncy castle, a candy bar, a midnight snack such as a food truck – or, of course, a spectacular firework display.

The team at Feuerwerk Perlach gave us an insight into the most important things you need to know when planning fireworks for your wedding.

In this blog post, we’ll answer all the questions you might have about wedding fireworks.

Can You Have Fireworks Anywhere? What Do You Need to Consider?

Nowadays, fireworks can be arranged at a surprisingly wide variety of locations. For us, it is always exciting to see the different venues where people choose to celebrate their weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

We have received some rather unusual requests over the years – including locations where, at first, even we weren’t quite sure how we could make a firework display work. But that is also one of the things we love about our job: today, fireworks can be created in many different settings.

Whether it is a car park, a meadow, a lakeside location, a rooftop terrace or even high up in the mountains – there are plenty of possibilities.

Depending on the venue, certain regulations may need to be taken into account, for example regarding nature conservation. The available space may also limit the type of fireworks that can be used. If there is not enough safety distance, for instance, certain high-altitude effects may not be possible.

However, the range of pyrotechnic effects available today is incredibly diverse, meaning we can usually find suitable options for almost every location.

So it is always worth getting in touch and asking us what might be possible.

What Happens on the Day of the Celebration?

On the day of the event, we usually arrive in the afternoon or early evening to begin setting everything up. As soon as it gets dark, the fireworks can begin.

Afterwards, we dismantle everything and, of course, make sure that no debris or waste is left behind.

The only thing that remains is the memory of a sparkling finale to an unforgettable day.

Do I Need to Obtain Permission for Wedding Fireworks?

When we are commissioned to create a firework display, we take care of everything – from the initial planning through to cleaning up after the fireworks.

One of the questions we hear most often is: “Where do we need to apply for permission?”

This is something many couples initially worry about. But there is no need to stress, because we take care of the necessary applications and communication with the relevant authorities.

We also obtain permission from the property owner, which is required for every firework display.

So you do not need to worry about how to officially register your wedding fireworks. We know exactly what is required and take care of the entire process.

You could essentially describe it as an all-round package when you book a firework display with us.

What Types of Wedding Fireworks Are Possible?

This question is not quite as easy to answer because several factors need to be considered first.

We need to know when and where the celebration is taking place. It is also helpful to know the occasion, whether the fireworks are intended as a surprise, whether you already have specific ideas or wishes and approximately what budget you have in mind.

This information makes it much easier for us to recommend suitable possibilities and prepare an individual proposal.

Firework displays can range from small to large, short to long and more affordable to highly elaborate.

Rather than overwhelming someone with every possible option after their first enquiry, we therefore like to start with a few key details. During a personal conversation, it usually becomes clear very quickly what the client is looking for.

The amount of space available is another important factor.

Put simply: the larger the area available for the fireworks, the more possibilities we have as pyrotechnicians.

If the area is smaller, fewer effects can be launched high into the sky. We have to maintain specific safety distances depending on the height reached by the individual effects. The higher the fireworks go, the more space we need.

For wedding fireworks, we often begin with a burning heart and/or the couple’s initials before moving on to aerial effects.

These illuminated displays give the fireworks a very personal character and create a direct connection to the occasion. For birthdays, numbers can also be incorporated into the display.

Fireworks can also be accompanied by music or even choreographed precisely in sync with it. We particularly love using our clients’ favourite songs, as this makes the experience even more personal.

And fireworks do not necessarily have to take place high up in the sky.

We can also create beautiful effects closer to the ground, which is particularly useful when space is limited. In addition to classic illuminated designs, our repertoire includes a 3D sun, a rotating peacock and our so-called “porcupine”.

Flame projectors can also be incorporated into any firework display.

So if you are considering fireworks as a highlight of your wedding evening, don’t be afraid to explore the idea. Simply get in touch with us and we can assess what is possible at your venue.

Your individual proposal will then include different options that could be realised.

How Long Should Wedding Fireworks Last?

A firework display should last at least around three to four minutes, although there is of course no real upper limit. If you decide to have fireworks, the experience should ultimately be worth the effort – both for us and for you. A useful question to ask yourself is:

Do you want to bring all your guests outside only for the fireworks to be over after two minutes – or would you rather create a real spectacle that everyone will remember?

For a firework display choreographed to music, we usually combine two to three songs.

The exact duration and scale will, of course, also depend on your budget.

How Much Do Wedding Fireworks Cost?

The cost always depends on how large or small the firework display is intended to be and which individual wishes the couple or client has.

We also need to adapt every display to the specific conditions at the venue.

That is why we do not offer a standard, ready-made firework package. Instead, every client receives an individual and personally tailored proposal.

After all, the fireworks are supposed to be a unique highlight of your celebration.

Our proposals include the entire process – from planning and obtaining the necessary permissions to cleaning the launch area afterwards. The price therefore includes much more than simply the cost of the pyrotechnic effects themselves.

A large proportion of the work actually takes place during the preparation stage.

We carefully consider which effects should be used and how they should be combined. The individual elements then need to be prepared with ignition systems, mounted securely and, where necessary, protected against the weather.

For the official application, we also need to prepare a plan of the launch area. Depending on the location, additional permissions from authorities or organisations responsible for nature conservation, forestry or railways may be required. Nearby facilities such as hospitals or care homes may also need to be taken into consideration.

All of this administrative work naturally takes time as well.

If you would like fireworks to be one of the highlights of your wedding evening, you should therefore expect to invest from approximately €1,000 upwards.

Can Fireworks Still Take Place in Bad Weather?

Bad weather does not automatically mean that the fireworks have to be cancelled.

Of course, everyone would ideally like to enjoy their fireworks in dry and windless conditions. However, the individual effects can be weatherproofed to protect them from rain if the weather does not cooperate.

When applying for permission, we also specify a time window during which the fireworks can take place.

This gives us some flexibility on the day itself. If necessary, we can wait for a rain cloud to pass or start the fireworks a little earlier.

So, if anyone has to stand out in the rain, hopefully it will only be us – and not your guests. ;-)
