7 Unique Ideas for Your Corporate Christmas Party in Munich
Every year, it’s the same story: the corporate Christmas party at a restaurant.
A long table, a Christmas menu, a few drinks and eventually everyone heads home. Of course, that can still be lovely. But if we’re being honest, a few weeks later, there often isn’t much of it that really stays with us. And I think that’s a shame.
Because a corporate Christmas party can be so much more than the obligatory end-of-year dinner. It’s a wonderful opportunity to step away from everyday work life, celebrate together and say thank you to the people who contribute to the company throughout the entire year.
In more than 14 years as an event planner, I have planned and accompanied a wide variety of events, and there is one thing I have realised time and again: you don’t need the biggest budget or the most extravagant programme to create a truly special evening.
What you need is the right idea and a concept where everything works together. Because lasting memories aren’t created by entertainment or decoration alone – they are created when people actually feel something.
A Christmas party in particular offers a wonderful opportunity to make genuine appreciation and gratitude for everything achieved together throughout the year tangible, while at the same time creating new motivation for the year ahead. And to create exactly these emotions, you need a thoughtful concept that doesn’t simply entertain people, but genuinely connects with them.
Perhaps it’s a beautiful Christmas dinner around one long table. Maybe an empty venue is transformed into a winter wonderland for one evening. Perhaps 300 employees celebrate at their very own private Christmas market. Or maybe dinner eventually turns into drinks at the bar and dancing on the dance floor. That is exactly what I love about event planning: an occasion, a venue and an initial idea can become something completely unique.
So, if you’re currently asking yourself, “What should we do for our corporate Christmas party this year?”, I’ve put together 7 of my favourite ideas for a special corporate Christmas party in Munich. And, of course, I’ll also share what I would pay particular attention to when planning them based on my experience.
1. Private Christmas Dinner
A Christmas dinner together is a classic. And before we dismiss the restaurant option completely: going out for dinner together is not a bad idea at all.
I would simply make a little more of it.
The right venue alone can make an enormous difference. Instead of simply reserving a large table at a restaurant, you could, for example, hire a special event venue exclusively for your team.An old villa, an urban loft, a private dining room or a venue overlooking Munich immediately gives the evening a completely different character. I’ve put together some of my favourite event venues in Munich in a separate article.
Then there are all the details that turn a shared dinner into a truly special evening: a long table, candlelight, beautiful florals, a sophisticated table setting, the right lighting and, of course, great food. And this is exactly where I would make the Christmas party even more personal.
Instead of traditional place cards, for example, you could create individual name cards for every guest – beautifully designed and coordinated with the overall concept of the evening.
It’s a small gesture that immediately communicates: this isn’t just any table that has been set. This place has been prepared especially for you.
One of my favourite ideas takes this even further: a personal letter waiting for each employee at their seat. Not a standardised Christmas message, but a few genuine sentences about what you appreciate about that person, what you have been grateful for over the past year or how they have contributed to the company and the team.
It barely adds anything to the event budget, but emotionally, it could become one of the most valuable moments of the entire evening. Because it’s precisely these personal gestures that ensure appreciation isn’t simply expressed, but truly felt. You can also add a few special elements around the dinner itself. Live cooking, wine pairing, a special cocktail bar or live music during the reception can create wonderful highlights without requiring guests to follow a fixed programme throughout the evening.
My tip from more than 14 years of event planning: It’s better to do a few things exceptionally well than to overload the evening with activities. An extraordinary venue, a beautiful table and one or two special highlights are often more than enough.
And sometimes, the thing people remember most isn’t the most expensive highlight at all – but the personal moment no one expected.
2. Your Own Private Christmas Market
Why take the entire team to a crowded public Christmas market when you could create your very own Christmas market just for your employees?
Iparticularly love this idea for larger companies. Small huts or stalls, mulled wine and punch, different food stations, fire pits and strings of lights instantly bring that Christmas market feeling to your corporate event. You can then add a few activities to make the evening even more engaging.
Your own curling lane, for example, fits perfectly into a winter concept and has the added benefit of naturally bringing people from different teams together. A photo booth, live music or small interactive stations can also be integrated beautifully. The best part is that nobody has to stay in one fixed seat all evening. Guests can grab something to eat, move between the different stalls, play a round of curling and naturally start conversations with colleagues they might not usually spend much time with.
My tip: Make sure you plan enough covered and heated areas. No matter how beautiful a Christmas market is, if everyone is freezing after an hour, enthusiasm usually disappears pretty quickly.
3. Rooftop Christmas Above the Rooftops of Munich
If you want your corporate Christmas party to feel more modern and less traditionally festive, the venue itself can already make a huge difference.
A rooftop or venue overlooking Munich often doesn’t need much additional styling. Welcome drinks, a beautiful bar, candles, good lighting and perhaps a flying dinner followed by a DJ can be more than enough. I particularly like this option for small and medium-sized companies as an alternative to the classic Christmas dinner. However, when searching for a venue, I would never let the view alone convince me. Can guests dance there? How late can music be played? Is there a dedicated bar? Where will the catering be prepared? Is there enough indoor space for all guests if nobody wants to use the terrace? And what about technical requirements?

4. Private Chalet or Mountain Lodge Christmas
One of the great advantages of Munich? We don’t have to travel very far to spend an evening surrounded by the mountains.
For a special Christmas party, you could reserve a chalet or mountain lodge exclusively for your company. The evening could begin with mulled wine around a fire, followed by dinner together and perhaps live music, a bar or a DJ later on.
If you’d like to add a shared experience beforehand, you could plan a short winter or torchlight hike. Even a small mulled wine walk on the way to the lodge can be beautiful. And a Christmas celebration in a mountain lodge doesn’t automatically have to look rustic or traditional. With the right venue, florals, lighting and table design, it can become an incredibly sophisticated and modern evening.
My tip: Plan the journey there and back right from the beginning. A private bus or shuttle from Munich makes the evening much more relaxed for everyone, and nobody has to worry about how they are going to get home later.
5. Private Tasting & Dinner
If you’d like to include a shared activity but aren’t interested in traditional team building, you could combine your Christmas party with a tasting experience.
This could be a wine or champagne tasting with a sommelier, a cheese and wine pairing, a chocolate tasting or even a special non-alcoholic pairing. Afterwards, everyone can enjoy dinner together – or the tasting can be incorporated between individual courses. I particularly like this idea for small and medium-sized teams. It gives everyone something to experience and discover together while still leaving plenty of time for conversations.
A sophisticated cooking or baking class works in a similar way. Instead of traditional team building, the team could prepare a menu together with a chef and then enjoy it afterwards with a carefully selected wine pairing.
My tip: Don’t let the tasting turn into a seminar. A few carefully selected products, an engaging expert and plenty of time in between to simply enjoy the evening are usually much more effective.
6. Christmas by the Lake at Lake Starnberg
A corporate Christmas party doesn’t necessarily have to take place in the middle of Munich.
Only around half an hour from the city, Lake Starnberg provides a beautiful setting for celebrating the end of the year together.
The afternoon could begin with a transfer from Munich followed by a winter walk along the lake. Afterwards, guests can warm up with mulled wine or punch before enjoying dinner at a special venue directly by the water. Depending on the company, this could become a relaxed evening or a larger Christmas celebration with music, a bar and dancing afterwards.
Especially when employees usually work in Munich, I think it can be wonderful to consciously leave the city for the Christmas party. Even the journey there together makes the evening feel a little like a mini getaway.
My tip: Don’t plan too much around the lake itself. December days are short and the weather can be unpredictable. In my experience, one short outdoor activity followed by plenty of time in a beautiful, warm venue usually works much better.
7. Christmas Offsite with Skiing & Overnight Stay
Why spend just one evening together?
Especially for smaller teams, management teams or companies that are already planning an end-of-year review or workshop, the Christmas party can be combined with a Christmas offsite in the mountains.
In the morning, everyone travels from Munich towards the mountains together. During the day, you could hold a workshop or end-of-year session, followed by skiing, winter hiking or some time at the spa. In the evening, the actual Christmas party begins with dinner, drinks and music. Those who want to can stay overnight and start the following morning with breakfast together.
However, if skiing is part of the day, I think it is particularly important to provide an equally attractive alternative. Not everyone skis, and nobody should feel as though they are simply taking part in the “backup programme” at a company event. A beautiful hotel with a spa, a winter hike or another shared activity can therefore be just as much a part of the experience.
Of course, an offsite like this requires more planning than dinner together. But it also creates significantly more shared time than a traditional Christmas party from 7 to 11 p.m.
8. A Christmas Party That Has Never Existed Before
Perhaps none of these seven ideas feels quite right for your company. Because not every corporate Christmas party needs a ready-made theme or a concept that has already been done before. Sometimes, the best idea only emerges through conversation: from the company culture, the people, a special venue or simply from the question of what you want your guests to remember at the end of the evening.
That is exactly how I approach my planning. First, I want to understand who will be coming together that evening, what suits the company and what kind of atmosphere we want to create. From there, we develop a Christmas party that doesn’t feel like a template, but genuinely belongs to the company. And that is exactly why I think it’s such a shame to see the Christmas party as nothing more than an obligatory date in the calendar.
If companies are already investing time and budget, the result should be an evening that employees genuinely enjoy and remember.
Even More Christmas Party Ideas for Smaller Teams
Of course, there are plenty of other possibilities. Especially for smaller groups, a murder mystery dinner, private cooking class, baking class, cocktail workshop, floristry workshop or another creative experience can be a wonderful alternative.
But I would never choose an activity simply because it happens to be available.
The key question is always: Does it actually suit the people who are spending the evening together?
One team might love the idea of taking a cooking class together. Another would much rather enjoy great food and dance until late into the night. Both can be the perfect Christmas party.

The venue is one of the most important decisions when planning a corporate Christmas party.
It shouldn’t simply look beautiful – above all, it needs to suit the kind of evening you are planning.
How many guests will attend? Will there be a seated dinner or a party? Do we need a stage, an outdoor area or space for special activities? And how will guests get home at the end of the evening?
My tip: First decide what you want the Christmas party to look and feel like – and then find the venue that suits that concept, not the other way around.

Organise Your Corporate Christmas Party Yourself or Hire an Event Planner?
Of course, not every corporate Christmas party requires an event planner. If 15 colleagues are simply going out for dinner together, the organisation can usually be handled internally without too much difficulty. But as soon as the Christmas party becomes more individual, the workload can increase quickly – and this is exactly where full-service event planning can take the pressure off your team.
Together with my team, I support companies from the first idea through to the day of the event. We develop a concept that fits the company, the guests and the budget. If desired, I then take care of the complete organisation: venue search, catering, technical production, furniture, florals and decoration, entertainment, transfers and the selection and coordination of all vendors. Inspiration: Maison Blanche Christmas Party in Munich
The Christmas Edition of Maison Blanche, which I had the pleasure of planning and bringing to life in Munich, is a great example of just how individual a Christmas party can be.
For this networking event, we created a modern Christmas concept featuring a bold red and black colour palette, atmospheric lighting, sophisticated florals, a cocktail bar and carefully selected details. Instead of traditional Christmas decorations, the focus was on a contemporary aesthetic that perfectly suited the character of the event.
A very special highlight awaited guests as soon as they entered the venue: low-lying fog transformed the entrance area and gave the entire atmosphere an extraordinary, almost magical character from the very first moment. Live music accompanied the entrance and enhanced the entire experience. This meant the event didn’t begin with the first drink or the first item on the programme – it began with the very first step into the venue.
Because Maison Blanche is a networking event, however, we didn’t just want to create a special atmosphere. Above all, we wanted to make sure guests actually connected with one another. For this reason, we incorporated a small networking concept into the evening: as each guest entered, they drew a number that determined their first seat. Every chair at the tables was numbered accordingly.
After each course, it was time to change seats. Guests received a new number and joined a different table arrangement for the next course. Throughout the evening, this naturally created new conversations and encounters – without the need for a traditional or forced networking activity. This idea can also work beautifully for corporate Christmas parties. Especially in larger companies or teams where not all employees know one another well, thoughtfully changing the seating arrangements can naturally break up departments and familiar groups and encourage completely new conversations.
For me, it is precisely details like these that define a strong event concept: The individual elements don’t exist in isolation – they all work towards the same goal. Lighting, music and spatial design create atmosphere. Thoughtful little ideas create connections. And personal details create appreciation. The result is an evening that doesn’t simply look beautiful, but genuinely makes guests feel something – and that is what they remember.
